Need a reference, pick the right person. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

When it’s time to look for a job, you’re going to need a couple things; a solid resume, a cover letter and a list of people who will tell the world how great you are. These people should respect you, be well-spoken and have knowledge of how you perform at work. so, who are your best options to ask? To narrow it down, TheLadders.com has put together 12 ideas for you. One of the most obvious, your boss or supervisor. Even if you don’t have a great relationship with this person there is value in their opinion. Plus, if you don’t include them, that can look suspicious to your next potential employer. A person not so obvious? Anyone who knew you when you were just starting out. Did you babysit for a family pretty regularly? Were you a lifeguard during the summer? Have a paper route? Anyone who hired you for odd jobs can talk about your work ethic and commitment. For more ideas go to BanmillerOnBusiness.com. Hopefully you haven’t burned the bridges. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
