Getting vaccinated might be a choice, but it’s one that could cost you, literally. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

There are many things employers require; a college degree, certain training, drug tests and in some cases the covid vaccine. Mercer is a large employee benefits consultancy that works with thousands of employers around the world. According to Mercer some companies are beginning to tack on a surcharge of twenty to fifty dollars a month to unvaccinated workers. This is a different approach than many businesses have taken. It started with incentives such as paid time off and cash but with the delta variant driving up cases and hospitalizations, companies are changing their approach. Now instead of rewarding you they’re turning to the punishment side of the model. So dozens of companies are now looking at adding health coverage surcharges to encourage more people to get the shot. Obviously workers aren’t going to be happy to hear this but business owners say they can’t afford to risk their bottom line or the safety of everyone else. Wonder how long people will continue to hold out when their income gets infected. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
