Toyota is taking its business to the moon. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

The Japanese car maker is partnering with the Japanese space agency to create a hydrogen-powered rover capable of exploring the surface of the moon.  The plan is to help people live on the moon by 2040. The vehicle under development is called the Lunar Cruiser. A nod to the popular Toyota Land Cruiser. The launch date is set for some time in the late in this decade. The idea behind the Lunar Cruiser is that here on earth people eat, work, sleep and communicate with other people from the safety of their cars. So, Toyota figures the same things can be done in space. However, the one big difference? If something happens to your car you can hop out and fix it or take it to the garage. Not the same story on the moon. Instead, Toyota has developed a robotic arm for the cruiser designed to perform inspection and maintenance tasks. The end of the arm can be changed, depending on the job. Talk about an out of this world ride. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
