Toy Hall of Fame
Listen Now: Toy Hall of Fame
Some toys have found their way into the hall of fame, and ones you can find almost anywhere. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Three toys have beat twelve finalists to be inducted into the national toy hall of fame. This year the honor went to American Girl dolls, the board game Risk and sand. Yes, sand. like what you find at the beach or playground. Maybe a construction site. Either way the group says it is the most universal and oldest toy in the world. American Girl dolls were created in 1986 and recognized for their exploration of the country’s social and cultural history. The eighteen-inch dolls come with books that tell their stories and offer insight into different eras. For example, there is one doll whose story is about her wait for her father to return home from World War II. Risk was first released in the United States in 1959. It challenges players to control armies and conquer the world on a game board that is a map of the continents. Three toys that have stood the test of time and technology. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
