Listen Now: Tinder For Pets? New App Helps Sheltered Dogs
[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]Looking for the perfect pet? There’s an app for that.
Animal lovers in Lithuania have come up with a way to match animals in need of a home with people in need of a friend. Called GetPet, it’s designed to work like Tinder and features dogs currently holed up in local shelters.
Each profile features pictures of the animal and their information. If you are interested you swipe right, if it’s not the dog for you then swipe left. The creators say they found the idea after seeing a stray dog through the window of a computer shop.
They say there are many stray dogs in Lithuania and lots of people willing to adopt. And while right now the app is limited to dogs, there are plans to include cats and other animals in need of a home.
The app was launched last month and is getting hundreds of new users daily with a few successful matches already in the books.
Shelters say they are on board with the app because it’s bringing more people through the door and more animals on their way out.
