Fan demand brought a Taco Bell favorite back, and now it’s causing a shortage. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Recently, with the help of celebrity fans including Dolly Parton, Taco Bell announced it was bringing the Mexican Pizza back to its menu. Then, two weeks later the fast-food chain announced it was running out. The reason, demand. Officials say demand for the item has been more than seven times what it was the last time it was on the menu. One location in California said it sold more than a 1,000 in one day with one person alone ordering 180 pizzas. This has created now typical supply issues. The company says it could be a while before the issues are resolved, like maybe a few months. The good news? Once the shortage has been fixed the Mexican Pizza will be coming back to the menu permanently. In the meantime, the company has launched a web page for customers to log their complaints about the lack of Mexican Pizzas. The popular item first debuted in 1985, and it has yet to lose its luster.
