Spider-Man continues to breathe life into the box office and has just secured a pandemic first. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

With $460 million from North American theaters, plus another $587 million from international markets, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is now the first billion dollar movie of the pandemic. And it crossed this milestone without a release in China. It was also the number one movie over the Christmas holiday weekend, with “Sing 2” in second place and “The Matrix Resurrections” coming in third. The president of Universal says the studio is very pleased with how “Sing 2” performed. And considering the cast of numerous A-list celebrities plus some of the most well-known songs it’s expected to do well as the winter school break continues. The fourth Matrix has pulled in more than $22 million in its first five days. Like a number of other big title movies this past year it was also released to streaming the same day as theaters. With new years and then the memorial day weekend coming up, studios are optimistic for a turn-around. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
