It’s one thing to recycle, it’s another when it’s underwear. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Military members in Norway have been ordered to return their underwear, bras and socks at the end of their required military service. The reason? So the next group of recruits can use them. The Norwegian defense logistics organization says because of a challenging stockpile situation this will make sure there are more of the undergarments to go around. A spokesman for the organization says that with proper checks and cleaning, the reuse of these items should not be a problem. And they need the supply. In Norway military service is mandatory for both men and women and lasts between 12 and 19 months. Until recently, once the service was completed, the men and women returned their clothes but were allowed to keep their military issued underwear and socks. The military says this is not the first time it experienced shortages. They’ve also had problems with clothes, equipment and shoes. In some cases, there were errors with the system. Other times things simply got lost. But those shortages didn’t require extra loads of laundry. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
