There are many excuses for being late to work, but only a few your boss thinks you should use. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

A flat tire, your alarm never went off, traffic, there are lots of reasons you don’t get to work on time. But which ones work best with your boss? To find out, theladders.com talked to forty-six bosses about what they wish employees would say when running late. A big one, honesty is the best policy. Most bosses want you to tell the truth. One CEO says they have no problem with people being late if they own up to it and it doesn’t happen all the time. If it becomes a chronic problem, it will be one you have to fix. Something else you should try, admit it in advance. If you know you aren’t going to make it in on time, give your boss a heads up. That way they can rearrange things and make sure nothing gets delayed along with you. For more excuses that will fly go to banmilleronbusiness.com. It happens to all of us.
