Want to claim some roadkill, there’s an app for that. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Wyoming is one of 30 states that allows people to collect roadkill for food. There are rules to follow. For example, you can’t collect it after dark, national parks are off-limits and the whole carcass must be retrieved. If you’re looking for some extra meat there is an app that will alert you when something is available. It works by geotagging roadkill with their phones and documenting the species. App users will then contribute to that information and help wildlife experts and the state highway patrol know where to install wildlife crossing signs and reduce animal deaths. But besides helping to keep critters safe, it also feeds people. a carcass can be claimed and butchered. First, it has to be safe. The people that claim it will do so within a few hours and generally send a sample off to be tested for any diseases such as mad cow. Then the entire carcass gets used as food. People who participate say it helps them feel better to know what happens to the animal they hit. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
