You might read for fun, or read for work, but do you actually remember any of it? I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Pretty much every job requires some reading, emails from a boss or client, articles, legal briefs, whatever it is, chances are it’s important. But according to Inc.com, there are some ways of reading and absorbing information that are better than others, leading to greater retention and comprehension of what you’re reading. For example, read, don’t listen. Audiobooks are great for making your commute go faster or your vacation more enjoyable but chances are you don’t remember much about what you heard. Experts say actually reading is better than listening because your mind is less likely to wander and you can go back and re-read anything you didn’t understand. Same goes for digital reading. According to one theory people approach digital text with a casual mindset linked to social media and therefore devote less mental effort to it than when reading print. For more reading tricks to remember go to BanmillerOnBusiness.com. Make sure you really understand what the assignment is. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
