A private island for less than $400,000? While there is a catch, it’s not a bad one. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Duck Ledges is a private island off the coast of Maine. The 1.5 acre landmass is a ten-minute boat ride from the mainland and is on the market for $339,000. But it’s not just being able to afford the house. To qualify as a potential buyer, you must be prepared to spend a night on the island and win over the current owner. You see, the current owner wants the buyer to see the value in the island’s natural landscape while being willing to deal with its quirks. The cottage is small but cozy with 360 degree water views. It can flood and get a little rough in the winter, not to mention freezing, but the cabin and island are meant for summer getaways. The current owner says he has had a number of people interested, some who have stayed but he will know who is the right fit when he meets them. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
