Pop-tarts are not known for their fresh fruit, and it might cost them. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Kellogg’s, the company behind the strawberry-flavored Pop-Tart, needs more strawberries. That’s according to a class-action lawsuit filed against the company. The lawsuit, filed by a woman in Illinois, accuses the company of misleading customers by promising a larger number of strawberries than it delivers. In reality, the toaster pastries contain two percent or less of dried strawberries, dried pears, dried apples and red 40. At least according to the nutrition label found on the box. Therefore, the lawsuit states the company can not provide a strawberry taste because of other fruits and artificial flavorings in the pastry. The lawsuit says if the woman knew this was the case, she would not have purchased the Pop-Tarts. The woman believes the information about what’s inside the snack should be written clearly on the box so she can make a more informed decision when browsing store shelves. Something the lawsuit states competing strawberry breakfast pastries include. So far Kellogg’s has not responded to the lawsuit, and the fake filling is still being bought.
