Have some extra floor space, there’s an upcoming auction that might peak your interest. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
This month Sotheby’s is auctioning off the fossilized skeleton of a T-Rex relative. The dinosaur on the block is known as the Gorgosaurus. It was an apex predator that lived in what is now the western United States and Canada. it predated its relative the T-Rex by about 10 million years. The skeleton up for grabs to the highest bidder was found in 2018 in the Judith river formation in Montana. The whole skeleton measures ten feet tall and 22 feet long. And if you have the room, this will get you serious bragging rights. All the other known Gorgosaurus skeletons are in museum collections. That means this is the only specimen available for private ownership. The head of science and popular culture for the auction house says she has had the privilege of handling and selling many exceptional and unique objects but few capture imaginations like this skeleton. The auction is being held July 28th in New York. The presale estimate, five to eight million dollars. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
