Party’s Over
Listen Now: Party’s Over
Planning a trip to Venice, better get on the list. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Venice officials recently outlined new rules for people making a day trip to the city. Beginning in January, day-trippers will need to make a reservation and pay a fee to visit the historic area. This is all part of a plan to better manage the constant flow of visitors that far outnumber Venice residents. It will also cut down on pedestrian traffic in the narrow streets and foot bridges that cross the canals. Tourists who choose not to stay overnight will have to sign up online for the day they plan to come and pay a fee. Those fees range from three to ten dollars per person depending on how far out you book, whether it’s peak season and whether a lot of people have signed up for your same day. Failure to follow the new rules and you will face a fine up to $350 if you don’t have the proper paperwork. Let’s see if the plan helps the citizens and tourists get along better.
