Pandemic Shopping

Holiday shopping is in full swing. And this year, like everything else, it looks different.

As expected, lots of people are forgoing crowds at stores and malls and shopping online. This year, Cyber Monday is expected to become the biggest online shopping day in American history.

According to the research firm eMarketer Online, sales jumped nearly 36%, while in-store shopping dropped to 4.7%.

Even Black Friday didn’t see a lot of shoppers out and about. That came after health and government officials advised people to stay home and stores put up their best deals online.

Another unknown for this holiday season—shipping. With people not traveling to see friends and family, more packages are being sent. But if you want them to arrive on time, retailers and shipping companies are telling people to buy and ship early. Any delays could send people back to stores to make sure they pick something up in time.

Curbside pickup is also boosting business. Major companies are offering it as a way to get your items immediately while staying safe.

Holiday shopping, pandemic style.
