It seems that one of the more well-known Swiss chocolates is not quite Swiss enough. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

The makers of Toblerone are removing images of Switzerland’s famous Matterhorn mountain and the Swiss flag from packages of its triangle shaped chocolate. So why the rebrand? Back in June, the company announced it was outsourcing production of some of its chocolate to Slovakia because wages and the cost of living are cheaper than in Switzerland. But the business decision comes with some backlash. In 2017 a law was passed on the “Swissness” of products made in Switzerland. To be considered Swiss,  there are two requirements to be met. First, at least 4/5ths of the raw materials that go into the product must come from Switzerland and the processing that gives a product its “Essential characteristics” must be carried out in Switzerland. Since Toblerone no longer meets that criteria, it is no longer Swiss enough. So far we know that the iconic swiss images will be removed from the packaging but no word on any other changes. Especially when it comes to the fan favorite recipe. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
