The US Army is recruiting Clemson University for duty. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Recently the US Army announced it is giving a Clemson University research facility $22 million dollars. The purpose of the money, to help design the next generation of military vehicles that can be used on and off the road. And this money is on top of the $18 million dollars already given to the school’s International Center for Automotive Research in Greenville. The project will involve creating vehicles that will be operated by drivers and vehicles without drivers. They will also be working to come up with different sources of fuel. Clemson University says that before the additional money was granted, more than sixty professors and nearly 75 graduate students were already hard at work doing research. The US Army Chief Scientist for the program says creating vehicles that don’t need drivers is their key goal and the Clemson facility allows the team to test plenty of different models without having to build costly models. According to the army scientist this allows engineers to fail early and without spending a lot of money. And hopefully will lead to finding solutions faster. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
