The possibility of life on the moon just took a giant step forward. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

For the first time, scientists have been able to grow plants in soil from the moon that was collected by NASA’s Apollo astronauts. And the scientists were stunned with the results, one saying quote “Holy cow. Plants actually grow in lunar stuff, are you kidding me?” and the soil isn’t exactly fresh. It was collected by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin and other moonwalkers from Apollo 11. But there is a downside to the sprouts. While it is good news that something sprouted in the moon soil, after the first week the soil began stressing the plants so much that they began growing a lot slower. And most of the moon plants ended up stunted. But scientists are not deterred. They say one solution might be to use younger geologic spots on the moon, like lava flows for digging up planting soil. And the time is right for these experiments. NASA is looking to put astronauts back on the moon in a few years, and they’re hoping to grow some plants. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
