President Biden wants to rebuild America, with products made in America. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

The Biden administration is issuing new requirements for how projects funded by the infrastructure package will source material needed to build. It will require materials purchased, whether for a bridge, a highway or a water pipe be produced in the United States. However, in case there are not enough materials to fill all the needs, the new rules account for that as well. In that case, the US made requirement will be waived, with the goal of issuing fewer waivers over time as US manufacturing capacity increases. Right now, regulations dating back to the 1930’s have either been watered down or applied in ways that masked the use of foreign imports. This makes it hard for the government to say what percentage of construction material is made in the US. The new guidelines will allow government officials to put an exact number on that. In addition to making sure America’s infrastructure is made in America, the idea is to create more jobs and reduce the reliance on other countries, namely China. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
