America is about to be in the middle of two countries who have legalized marijuana—but will it take a hit?
The Mexican Senate has approved a bill to federally legalize marijuana in Mexico. While a few steps remain, it’s expected Mexico will soon be the largest country in the world, by population, to legalize the drug.
According to Forbes, the bill will establish regulated cannabis market to allow anyone 18 and older to purchase and possess up to 28 grams of marijuana. It also lets people cultivate up to four plants for personal use.
According to Forbes, all this opens the door for the United States to ensure the Nasdaq and the Stock Exchange would have a role in controlling the markets and dollars that would be rolling into the industry.
That’s something that did not happen several years ago when Canada made the same move, legalizing marijuana. In that time, the Department of Justice was under Jeff Sessions, someone who is not pro-marijuana.
Now Mexico is set to become a major force in the industry—and they’re blowing more than just smoke.
