Employees are important to a company’s success, unless they’re dead weight. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

At every company there are people who carry their weight and those who don’t. So how do you tell them apart? According to Ladders.com there are seven signs that tell if an employee is incompetent. So, whether you are one, or employing one, here is what to look for. First, someone who says “that’s not my job.” Good employees will take on extra responsibilities and should be rewarded for those efforts. Incompetent employees will rarely take on extra responsibilities because of things such as fear and laziness. Or they’re quick to blame others. When your boss is mad because a mistake was made you have two options. The first is to apologize and promise to fix it as soon as possible. The other is to place the blame on someone else. While it might be the truth, the fact that you are deflecting will be what your boss remembers. For five more signs of an incompetent employee go to BanmillerOnBusiness.com. It might be a harsh but necessary wake-up call. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
