Sometimes jobs give us an inside track, doesn’t mean you should take it. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

A Florida teenager and her mother are facing multiple felony charges for rigging a homecoming queen election at the girl’s school. It started when the mother worked as an assistant principal at an elementary school in the same county. Officials say she would access the district’s internal system to cast votes for her daughter to win the election. The investigation began late last year when the district reported unauthorized access into hundreds of student accounts. More than one hundred of the fraudulent votes came from the same IP address. That’s when investigators traced access to the school’s system to the mom’s cell phone and computers. Students at the high school say the daughter had talked about using her mother’s access to the school records for years. The mom has been suspended from her job and the daughter has been expelled. She is also being charged as an adult since she turned eighteen last month. Prosecutors say both mother and daughter face a maximum 16-year sentence. All for a plastic crown and sash.
