Holiday Shipping
Listen Now: Holiday Shipping
The holiday shopping season has turned into the holiday shipping season. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
According to ship matrix, nearly 3.4 billion packages are expected to travel across the country over the next few weeks. Throw in cards and letters and that number will hit more than 12 billion items shipped. Last year the USPS faced sick and quarantined workers and an increase of packages since stores were shut down and people were avoiding crowds. This year there are supply chain concerns and a fear of shipping delays leading the rush. But despite all that, USPS, FedEx and UPS are all in better shape to handle the increased volume. All three major shipping companies have increased hiring and are more organized. All have ordered more package sorting machines and in some cases more trucks and planes to get your gifts out. Shoppers have also adapted and are ordering things earlier and then sending out their packages before the last-minute rush. Plus, people returning to the office also means office supply shipments aren’t having to go out to individual homes. It’s the season for being prepared. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
