Cleaning out the house, send stuff to the dump and not your children. I’m Brian Banmiller on business.

People like to leave stuff to the next generation, whether it’s in a will or randomly boxing things up as a gift. But wrapping paper and a bow doesn’t mean it will be well-received. To help you out Forbes has some ideas of things your kids do not want. For example, books. Unless your children are college professors or own their own library, they don’t want your books. The exception, rare first editions that might fetch a pretty penny. Or porcelain figurine collections and fine china. Most members of the younger generation aren’t living somewhere that can fit extra shelves or a china cabinet. Besides you’ve never used those fancy place settings so why would your child? Something else you can toss or donate? Heavy antique furniture. Instead of gifting it to your child as a housewarming gift donate it and take a non-cash charitable tax deduction and help yourself out. Finally, linens. No one wants your sheets and embroidered pillowcases. Especially because they aren’t going to hand wash them. Brian Banmiller, CBS news.
