Ghosting
Listen Now: Ghosting
Companies say they are in need of workers, but their actions say otherwise. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Ghosting is a term that refers to contact being broken off midway through the start of a new process. Whether it’s a job interview or new friendship it basically means that one of the parties involved just cuts off all contact and disappears. And according to Business Insider the mention of the word “ghosting” in Glassdoor interview reviews has jumped. According to the reviews, ghosting was up 450% in October of this year compared to February of 2020. with the most incidents being reported this past August. So what gives? Experts say there is no precise reason for the rise of ghosting during the job process. But it is a sign that the entire hiring process is broken. Problems include people suddenly quitting their jobs, more pressure on recruiters and new screening technology. In some cases, a lot of employers have not adapted their recruiting process to this new world. But with vaccines and boosters and restrictions being lifted this excuse may not work for much longer.
