Dealing with a canceled flight, you’re far from alone. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
If you’re like thousands of people recently told your flight has canceled, you probably know how much of a crap shoot air travel has become. And recently it impacted the wrong guy. According to NPR, transportation secretary Pete Buttigieg had just wrapped up a meeting with the CEO’s of the country’s airlines about their operational problems, when he received an alert on his phone. His flight had just been canceled. Since people started moving about the country again, airlines have been plagued with staffing shortages, especially among pilots. So, according to NPR, in his meeting Buttigieg told the airlines they need to do better. He stressed they need to make sure schedules reflect the realities of recent staffing issues. Especially because airlines have received lots of support, most notably $54 billion in pandemic relief money. He also pressed them on the plan they have in place ahead of what is expected to be a very busy Fourth of July holiday weekend. The country is now open, we just need a way to get there.
