It’s considered the largest marine oil spill in history, and BP is still paying for it. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

In 2010 the Deepwater Horizon leaked 210 million gallons of oil into the gulf of Mexico, south of Louisiana. After a few failed attempts it was finally sealed five months after the spill began. Now, Alabama, Florida and Mississippi are receiving more than 100 million dollars in settlement money from the company, part of the multi-billion dollar settlement BP has been paying out to coastal states to restore species and habitats. Alabama will spend the money on four new projects to stabilize eroding shorelines and restore coastal marsh. It will also pay for engineering of beach and dune restoration. Florida is using the money to acquire and manage wetland and flood-plain habitat. This will help support oysters and marine fishes. And Mississippi’s new projects will expand and plan for future enhancements of artificial reefs to help protect vulnerable habitats along the gulf coast. About 900 million dollars remains to be allocated. All with the hope another spill doesn’t cripple the area again. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
