Recently the store manager of a Dollar Tree in Florida posted a series of TikTok videos describing the conditions at the store she ran. She talked about employee hours, how people would sometimes work alone and how boxes were left stacked up in aisles because there was no one to unpack them. After those videos, and despite being in the top performing 5% of store managers she was let go. Now she is considering a class action lawsuit and a number of employees are protesting her firing. So, what went wrong? According to Inc.com this story is full of examples every leader can learn. For example, don’t punish employees who point out problems. The company was within its rights to fire her but it made a private problem very public. Now a lot more people have an opinion about working for the company.
