An American classic is getting the electric treatment. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Chevrolet has announced it will release a fully electric version of its corvette sports car. The president of GM detailing the plan on linked in announcing in addition to other gas-powered cars, the company will offer a fully electric corvette in the near future. Details and names will be announced at a later date. The hybrid version of the sports car is expected to compete with similar options such as Ferrari and Porsche. As for the fully electric version GM has released no specifications or pricing. But according to Yahoo Finance, based on current Corvette pricing, options and historical costs an electric corvette will likely be in the $100,000 range. The closest competitor will be the Porsche 718 sports car which is set to debut in 2025. The announcement by GM stole some thunder from Ford which is also launching the electric version of its F150 this week. It seems most of the automakers are rolling out gas-free options, we’ll have to see if people buy into the hype. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
