Medical workers are speaking out but not everyone wants to hear it.
There are many stories about doctors and nurses reporting conditions they’re facing at hospitals and clinics. A lack of masks, ventilators and beds are making it hard for most of them to give proper care to patients.
But according to Bloomberg, some of their employers aren’t happy with the messages they’re sharing. An emergency room physician in Washington state says he was let go because he gave an interview to a newspaper about his facebook post. In that post he detailed what he believed to be inadequate protection and testing.
In Chicago, a nurse said she was fired for emailing her coworkers that she wanted to wear a more protective mask while on duty. Ruth Schubert is a spokeswoman for the Washington state nurses association. She says hospitals are muzzling nurses and doctors in an attempt to preserve their image. She says most hospitals have a procedure for talking to the media but times have changed.
Now people want to know what it’s like on the front lines — good or bad.
