College Football

College football is canceled–and everyone is paying the price.

The Big Ten and The Pac-12, two of the biggest conferences in college football, have announced they’re hanging up their cleats for the season. For the Pac-12, this is the first time games won’t be played in 100 years. And while players, coaches and fans are feeling the pain, so are bookies.

When news first broke the conferences were considering canceling the season, sports-betting stocks took a tumble. DraftKings, one of the most well-known betting sites, took a 12% hit. Others, including Penn National Gaming and Flutter Entertainment, reported an 8% and 4% drop respectively.

Then consider the schools themselves. When you think of ticket sales, money from boosters and sponsorship dollars, schools are looking at billions of dollars in losses. Some schools say as much as 85% of revenues to departments come from football.

Some colleges are asking season ticket holders to turn their tickets into donations–while others are looking anywhere for extra revenue.

The hits keep on coming, even off the field.
