Boeing has been cleared to fly about the world. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Federal regulators are giving Boeing the green light to resume deliveries of its 787 Dreamliner passenger jet. Regulators say they are satisfied with changes the company has made while producing the planes and are now safe to send to airlines. Before this new development, production of the giant two aisle planes had been held up by several problems. That includes gaps between the carbon-composite skin and use of unapproved titanium parts from an italian supplier. These issues prevented Boeing from being able to deliver any of the planes for most of the last two years, and it means about 120 of the planes have been parked while Boeing tried to fix the problems. Now it seems the wait is over. The FAA‘s acting chief met with safety inspectors and he says each plane will be closely inspected before being approved for delivery. American Airlines was the first to celebrate the news since it was hit hard by the delay. But now it says planes are coming and its wheels up. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
