Boneless Wings are a Super Bowl favorite. But experts say they’re also a culinary lie. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

According to the National Chicken Council, Americans ate about 1.5 billion chicken wings during the Super Bowl. And one of the more popular delicacies being served up, boneless chicken wings. Which, as what any good chicken connoisseur will tell you, isn’t a wing at all. Experts say they began seeing a surge in popularity over the past few years because of money. The average price for prepared boneless wings is just under $5 a pound compared to almost $9 for bone-in wings. Officials with the national chicken council say for them this is a way to move more boneless, skinless breast meat they have in abundance. Advertising experts say it all has to do with public perception. Sure, it might not be an actual wing, but coat it with enough sauce and hype it up as part of any good Super Bowl party and boneless wings fly off the shelf. And sure enough, people continue to buy them even though football season is long gone. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
