Listen Now: Baseball Brawls: Tensions Rise In Taiwanese League
[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]
Sports teams are playing to empty stadiums, but there’s one thing social distancing can’t stop… fights.
Some major sports have postponed the start of the season, some big events have been canceled and some are playing without fans. One example is Taiwan whose enforcement of social distancing has allowed the country to keep its baseball league up and running. However, it all went out the window during a recent game when every player on the field ended up in a brawl.
It started when the pitcher hit an in-fielder in the hip with an inside pitch, the fourth inside pitch according to some spectators. That cleared the benches from both sides as everyone ran onto the field and got up close and personal. The commentators said this was unusual since this was a conservative league and most calls are not disputed.
But people are frustrated and fuses are short which can lead to a little hand to hand combat. The baseball league season in taiwan just opened. No word on if this will shut things down again and keep players off the field.
