It’s tax season, don’t make it harder on yourself than it has to be. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

Preparing and paying taxes is no one’s idea of a good time. And the one thing that can make it worse, being audited. According to the IRS, an audit is a review of accounts to make sure the information you reported is the correct information. While they are usually triggered at random, certain kinds of people and certain behaviors can trigger one. So, to help you out CNET.com has put together a list of the top seven things that will cause your tax return to be flagged by the IRS. For example, missing or mismatched paperwork. Experts say mismatched documentation, something as simple as a missing form is the most common reason to get a letter from the tax man. Another problem, making a mistake with the math or the information. In most cases a simple math error won’t do anything but slow down the process of your return. But a lot of questionable numbers could trigger an audit. For more red flags go to BanmillerOnBusiness.com. And start early. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
