Bushfires are raging in Australia and the country’s navy is stepping in to provide rescue, relief and even a cold one.
Australia’s navy, working to evacuate people from the southeast coast has recently received a new mission to deliver beer. So far more than a thousand people have been evacuated from the town of Mallacoota. A place that people have been rushing to for shelter since New Year’s Eve. And while the military is working as fast as it can to get people out there are still thousands more waiting for help.
With that many people, supplies of everything including beer are running low. So, the navy recently dropped off twenty kegs and four pallets of beer and cider. A navy spokesperson says the beer is not occupying unnecessary space and other emergency supplies were not offloaded to accommodate it. The CEO of Carlton and United breweries supported the move saying a pub with no beer is bad enough in the best of times.
And after what these people have gone through, they should have the opportunity to sit down and enjoy a drink.
