Politicians struggle with providing affordable health care, so billionaires are getting in on the game. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
Investor Mark Cuban has launched an online pharmacy that offers more than 100 generic drugs at low cost. Its goal is to be as transparent as possible in its price negotiations with drug companies so you know exactly how much you’re paying and why. Here’s how it works. The company, the Mark Cuban cost plus drugs company is a registered pharmaceutical wholesaler that purchases drugs directly from the manufacturer. According to a company statement, this takes out the middleman which helps lower the cost of drugs. For example, a Leukemia drug on the site is about $47 a month compared to the $9,000 you pay getting it the traditional way. The company does not process insurance claims which means you will have to pay for medications out of pocket. But the drugs generally cost less than the deductible and copay most insurance plans require. The other stipulation, you will need to get an actual prescription before you can place an order on the site for drugs. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
