A big role in a movie is now leading to the part of a lifetime. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.

In 1977 Rod Masters appeared in the movie “Slap Shot” starring Paul Newman as an organ player hit in the head by a hockey puck. Fast Forward to today and masters is now working as a musician for the professional hockey team, the Seattle Kraken. Turns out organ or keyboard music goes hand in hand with hockey. Of the 32 NHL teams only six don’t have an organist playing during games. That was almost the case for Seattle. When they city started the franchise, there were lots of boxes to check. And something that slipped through the cracks was an organist. Fortunately for the team and its fans, Masters himself has reached out to the team asking for the job if they were interested. The one catch, most of his music background was in top 40’s, pop, disco, and country. Not necessarily the catchy tunes played during games. But he’s learning quickly and he’s brought in a huge social media fan base. Talk about a second act. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
