A Magical Makeover
Listen Now: A Magical Makeover
The Walt Disney company is making a change. I’m Brian Baniller on Business.
For years there has been a program at Disney parks where customers come in as regular kids and leave as princesses and knights. Working at these boutiques are park employees who have always been known as “fairy godmothers in training.” The implication being that in the movie Cinderella her fairy godmother made all her dreams come true, and these employees are doing the same. But now, those fashion helpers are going to be called “Fairy Godmother’s Apprentices”. A Disney spokesperson telling CNN the change was made to make the program more inclusive. Right now, only women could hold the title “Fairy Godmothers in Training.” That means only women could work in this part of the park. By changing the name, it opens up the job to male employees as well. And there’s a lot of fun to be had here. Employees will pamper and primp paying customers and let them pick out their outfits until they’re fairy tale ready.
And it looks like this time it’s her godmother, and not Cinderella getting the makeover. Brian Banmiller, CBS News.
