A Basketball Brand

Steph Curry is going toe to toe with a basketball legend—but not on the court.

Under Armour and the Golden State Warriors star have launched the Curry Brand, a new line featuring shoes and clothes for a number of sports including basketball and golf.

The idea is to  reach a younger audience while competing with Nike and its extremely successful Jordan brand.

For the past 10 years, Nike has taken the top spot in favorite apparel brand among teenagers. By comparison, for the last year, Under Armour has been number one on a list of brands no longer worn by male teens. Nike is number one in the shoe game and Under Armour is sitting in 11th place.

When it comes to the bottom line, Under Armour sales were flat last quarter, and Nike’s Jordan brand brings in more than $3 billion a year.

But it’s not all about business. The Curry Brand will also help kids have more access to sports and bring professional coaching to more youth sports. This might be one game Jordan will have to lose.
