Listen Now: Automated Assistance
[xyz-ips snippet=”post-thumb-url”]
Residents at a German care home are getting some automated assistance.
A few years ago, a robot named Pepper began working at a care home in Germany. His purpose was to take some of the load off human workers. But since the pandemic, he has become an even more valuable member of the staff, even bringing along some friends to help out.
Now Pepper spends his time leading exercises, singing songs and telling stories to the folks being treated there. This allows for a cleaner, more sanitary and socially distanced environment to continue regular activities.
New additions to the staff include Jaime, a robot that meets people at the door. There she takes temperatures, give directions and provides important information about the facility and people there.
The last artificial addition to the staff rolls around providing hand sanitizer and cleaning materials to staff and residents. All of these jobs had previously been done by humans. But now the robots are picking up the slack.
Human staff members say it took some getting use to, but now the robots are just part of the family.
