Listen Now: Workplace Nudity Has Netherlands Company In Hot Water
While most employers frown upon nudity at work… one company is asking for it.
The top supermarket chain in the Netherlands is backtracking after asking employees to upload photos of themselves in their underwear. The reason? To determine the size, they would need for their new uniforms.
Employees had been asked to upload the pictures on a mobile app. But when a local newspaper started quoting stunned employees the company decided it might not have been the best plan. One employee says he saw the poster hanging in the break room and thought it was a joke. But the manager said if they don’t do it, they can’t work in the store because they won’t be in the right uniform.
The company says it determined this would be the fastest and most efficient way to get everyone the right uniform. It says participation was voluntary and pictures would not be visible to other staff members, including managers.
Now the company is reversing course saying it apologizes to its employees and didn’t mean to offend anyone. Next time, maybe just ask people for their size.
