Avoid These WFH Micromanaging Mistakes

People working from home still need to be managed… but only to a certain extent.

These days the workforce sure looks different. Offices are empty, the morning commute is traffic-free and many people work in their pajamas. And with people heading to their couch to clock in everyone is making adjustments, including managers.

But according to Inc.com the fastest way to ruin this new normal is to micromanage it. Seeing your workers face-to-face is an easy way to keep an eye on what people are doing. But when you can’t see them the impulse is to constantly check-in to ask how they’re filling their time. This is an impulse you should ignore.

Good managers don’t actually care what employees do with their time, they care if the job gets done or not. Plus, micromanaging people implies you don’t trust them, and constantly asking people to check in creates more work. So actual tasks take a back seat and your deadline is missed, while you are busy finding out how many times your employees left the couch to use the bathroom.
