Listen Now: How To Answer The Dreaded “Weakness” Interview Question
Want to get a job interview back on track? Try this one simple statement.
One of the toughest interview questions to answer is, “what do you need to work on” or “tell me about a personal weakness.” No one wants to admit their faults when trying to land a paycheck but you can’t ignore the questions.
Terry Gross is a professional interviewer who has talked to everyone from politicians to artists. She says one of the best ways to avoid being caught off guard is by preparing answers to questions that might come your way. But even the most prepared person can still be caught off guard.
So when you think the interview is going badly, turn to a topic you feel good about discussing. The way you do that is with the phrase “let me share an experience.” This allows you to play to your strengths with a positive story. Plus, showing your potential employer that you aren’t afraid to take control of the situation doesn’t hurt either.
A job interview should be a two way street… don’t crash and burn.
