Listen Now: Vogue x Amazon: An Unexpected Fashion First
The biggest online retailer is pairing up with one of the biggest names in fashion, but will it be the right look?
Amazon, Vogue and The Council of Fashion Designers of America are coming together for an online store. According to Business Insider, people can buy luxury items from independent designers on the site. Called “Common Threads: Vogue x Amazon Fashion,” it is meant to boost independent high-end designers who are seeing their businesses take a dive during the pandemic.
And while some people, including long time Vogue Editor Anna Wintour is calling this a step in the right direction, others aren’t so sure. Some luxury designers are shocked because they consider Amazon an everyday store and don’t want to be associated with it.
Retail experts say people turn to Amazon to read the multiple reviews on twenty dollar items. But are people going to want to buy something for five hundred dollars that doesn’t have a single review? Plus, it doesn’t seem that prices are going to be any cheaper on Amazon than another site, which could defeat the purpose.
