Traveling For Healthcare: The Hot New Career Perk At Amazon

People are hitting the road for health care and companies are footing the bill.

In an effort to control healthcare spending, companies are literally going the distance to allow employees to bypass local care and search for the best deal, or the doctor they want.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the latest company to do this is Amazon. The company just announced it would pay travel costs for workers diagnosed with cancer who choose to get care at City of Hope, a Los Angeles based health system.

And that’s just one example, more than three hundred and eighty thousand Amazon employees are eligible for the travel benefit to get the care they want. These types of programs are a hit for both employee and employer.

Companies can get more competitive prices by shopping around and employees can get better care. Plus with companies allowing people to shop for health care across the country, local providers have less reason to boost prices and people have a better chance of seeing a top specialist in the field they need.

Who doesn’t love options?
