Waiting to hear back after a job interview? Here’s how to pass the time without ruining your chances.
You feel you nailed the interview, the hiring manager said they’ll be in touch, and now you’re just waiting. While it might be tempting to keep asking what your status is, you won’t be doing yourself any favors. So, to help you out, US News and World Report has some things you should and shouldn’t do while awaiting the outcome.
For example, don’t lie about other job offers. Don’t follow up after your interview and tell them you have other offers in an attempt to speed up their process. This is something you should do only if you actually have other offers that demand an answer. Hiring managers can easily tell if you’re lying by checking in with fellow recruiters.
If you currently have a job do not tell your boss you are waiting for another offer. Let your current job know only when you have decided your next move.
