The Middle Seat
Listen Now: The Middle Seat
Airlines are ready to fill up their planes, but the CDC is saying not so fast. I’m Brian Banmiller on Business.
As more people get vaccinated, they are ready to hit the road. Flights are booking up and ticket prices are rising as airlines hope to make some money back. And to get as many people in the air as possible, most have reopened middle seats for booking. But people might be hesitant to buy, because the CDC released a new report saying the middle seat is the most dangerous seat on the plane thanks to the possibility of germs. According to the report leaving the middle seat of a plane empty reduces exposure to “viable” coronavirus particles by twenty-three to fifty-seven percent. In response the CEO of Delta said the study was based on twenty seventeen data and doesn’t take into account safety protocols that have been implemented such as masks and surface cleaning. On May first, Delta will reportedly become the last airline to begin selling middle seats again. So, if you’re hitting the road the CDC says bring your mask and pack your hand sanitizer.
