The McRib

McDonald’s is delivering a last-minute boost to 2020—The McRib.

The last time we saw the McRib was in 2012, but now the Golden Arches says that beginning December 2nd, it will return to the menu for a limited time.

The sandwich, which has its own following, consists of boneless pork ribs, slivered onions, pickles and gallons of barbecue sauce. Whenever it pops up, people scan the internet for locations serving it and buy as many sandwiches as the limit will allow. There is even a website called the McRib Locator, created to spread the word about when and where the sandwich is offered.

But it’s not just meant as a pick-me-up for fans. The company itself needs a boost. The pandemic has left the industry hurting, with drive-thru its main source of revenue.

McDonald’s says it will spend more than $200 million to try and get customers back and that includes putting the McRib back on the menu.

Maybe there’s a chance it becomes a permanent addition. For now, the only place it’s on the menu year-round is Germany.
